Berichten voor Zara plot

In 2012, Hans Fels became the father of a daughter, Zara, late in his life. He wants to tell her about the long life he lived before she was born. What is actually relevant in the 63 years that Zara was not there? How do you summarize those years? By asking these questions, by asking others for advice and counsel and by searching for what really matters, Hans puts his family history together. He draws each event on a sheet of paper, which he then looks at together with Zara.

Filmmaker Hans Fels, born in 1948, attempts to tell his family history to his 10-year-old daughter Zara. Father Cornelius survived 3 years in a concentration camp, mother Annetje was in Auschwitz for 9 months and lost her first husband during the Holocaust. Naturally, that chapter left deep marks. More of a podcast than a film, because Fels is constantly talking and never lets the images or photos he uses play for him. He also fails to give his story a universal character. Given the title, that may not have even been the intention, but that does not mean that this documentary is mainly interesting for Zara and not for the unsuspecting film lover.
