Anne [Katja Schuurman] is the 'man maker' from the title who has made it her mission to help silly men become real men, among other things by teaching them how to dress and how to please her. In order not to get stuck in a serious relationship, she always breaks up with them within six months. 25 years after her first project, she sets her sights on number 30 Luuk [Leo Alkemade], but this project does not go according to plan. Schuurman, always dressed in red, is very good in the lead role and has a pleasant chemistry with Eva van de Wijdeven as her girlfriend. There is an amusing karaoke scene, but Aattache portrays almost all the men as irritating or offensive caricatures and the children are a complete disgrace. Too bad Schuurman felt it necessary to cooperate, even though she comes out of this relatively unscathed.

Has Alkemade ever played another character in his films and series? To be honest, I know this from him now. Katja as the lead actress doesn't come across well either. I find the acting very disappointing. And when she talks to the camera every time, I get the creeps. Not convincing.

No, you can safely skip this film.

You're not the man I want to grow old with.

And with that sentence, I lost the movie—from that moment on, that little voice in the back of my head is stuck, making comments like, "Yes, but dear Katja, take a look in the mirror, you're already old." And then there's the rest of the movie. It reminds me a lot of a long time ago, when I ran into two of my neighbors on the way back from their pub crawl. No, it wasn't exactly a fun night, because there were no nice men—to which I just managed to keep in, "Yes, but you're not nice girls either, are you?"

The entire film drips with the arrogance that modern women learn from TV and their friends. The idea that they're some kind of goddess who "deserves" everything, is entitled to everything, or even worse, that they can just "improve" a man. Just like Katja in the film—her character is still fun and somewhat amiable in the introduction, but as soon as the plot kicks off, she's just another utterly uninteresting clone from some TV show. And especially without the self-awareness that could offer a way out—or the realization that, with the hopeless search for the next man to charm, it's mainly up to them to become more likable.

Katja plays it incredibly well, of course, and she also makes a completely convincing portrayal of a drunken barmaid who stumbles over her own words. But she's also simply outclassed by Georgina Verbaan—the country's most underrated actress—who once again delivers a perfectly fitting performance. What is she doing in such a production that's already a failure, I wonder? Such a shame. Apparently, it was that moment in the month again when the mortgage has to be paid, and all principles are thrown out the window.
