My Mother's Eyes plot

Hitomi and her daughter Eri are both cellists. After a car accident leaves Eri paralyzed and Hitomi loses her sight, mother and daughter literally see life through the same pair of eyes. Hitomi receives a pair of futuristic contact lenses and Eri watches from the hospital bed through VR glasses. It creates a bond between the two that never existed before.

Strong second film by Kushida.

His first one was worthwhile, but a bit uneven. He resolves that neatly here, although it is noticeable that the film takes a few narrative steps before getting to the core of the story. Engaging in itself, but probably asking a bit too much of the smartphone audience.

Furthermore, it reminded me somewhat of the grimmer Japanese films released just after the turn of the century, though slightly more modern in terms of editing. Grimy colors and atmospheric camerawork, solid acting, and an atmospheric soundtrack. A peculiar beast, this, but I did enjoy it.
