Good analysis by Collins. Recalls that the film makes you think. About the choices you make and the consequences you have to bear. I didn't find it an easy film. A film that grates and leaves you with questions. That's why I give it a higher rating. Because I was also fascinated by it. To a main character who doesn't want to color within the lines. A young Jewish woman, who is part of a jazz orchestra and a Jewish group of friends with types that I also got quite annoyed with. While playing jazz is already forbidden, they also get involved in illegal actions, but so recklessly that it has to go wrong.

The form of the film is rather jumpy. It made me irritable. What stands out most is the vitality of the characters. Young people who want to live to the fullest. While they know that they are doomed to die young. That is not a comfortable place to sit in your easy chair. What made me doubt was that group of Jewish factory workers (including Stella). In 1943? Auschwitz is also openly discussed and what happens there. But did they know that back then? How you yourself go downhill to protect people and sacrifice friends and acquaintances for that. I found that very recognizable and I did not sense any moral judgment in myself. You can still commit suicide, someone says to Stella somewhere in the film. How easily people are ready with their judgment. Even in this day and age.
