Road to Boston plot

"The race for freedom. The win for dignity."

In 1947, two years after Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule, Seo Yoon-bok is a 24-year-old marathon runner. He is preparing for the 51st Boston Marathon with trainers Sohn Kee-chung and Nam Seung-ryong. National coach Kee-chung won the gold medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, but because Korea was then under Japanese colonial rule, he wore the Japanese flag on his chest. Kee-chung really wants his pupil Yoon-bok to win the Boston Marathon with the Korean flag. After many difficulties getting there, they finally arrive a week before the race starts.

Sports drama about the legendary victory of a Korean athlete in the first post-war marathon in Boston in 1947. It oozes chauvinism. The dramatic story is quite okay, but the sometimes clumsy images of the training and the marathon do not do the film any favors. My guess is that they will pay little attention to this in South Korea.
