J'aime la Vie plot

Mira is a young single mother, always positive and full of energy. She has a nice job as a home nurse, close friends and a good relationship with her youngest brother. But then she receives news that hits her like a bombshell. Mira decides to reestablish contact with her eldest brother in an attempt to reunite the family that was never really one. And so this unusual and, to say the least, colorful family goes to the Ardennes for a weekend. Mira awaits a challenge to strengthen family ties.

Mathias Sercu's directorial debut. After seeing the trailer, I wasn't that excited. Not that I have anything against Jurgen Delnaet - his roles in Collision in Moscow and the series Martian were fantastic - but I sometimes get the feeling that I see him the same way over and over again. Hence the reluctance for the film.

But Sercu did well. Based on the theme of cancer, a broken family that has grown apart is brought back together. The latter is the real subject of the film. A bit of a clumsy plot at times, but I enjoyed the attempts Mira made to piece together the pieces. The reason why the family fell apart is harsh and confronts everyone with their past, not least Rocco himself.

I have to disappoint anyone who thinks woke about little Sam. The film is very personal for Sercu, who was diagnosed with cancer that has affected his brother (Sam Sercu) and son (Tore). The cancer allowed his family to connect with each other. As for Sam, Sercu refers to his godson who, even as a boy, also feels like a girl.

Tried this drama and thought it was a good film. Despite the heavy themes, it was still presented in a fairly light-hearted manner.

The cast was well chosen and came across convincingly. Nice movie.
