I vaguely knew Jake Paul by name. Until he suddenly got something with our own Jutta Leerdam. At first glance an unlikely combination in the vein of Pamala Anderson & Tommy Lee, not to mention The Beauty & The Beast.
After watching this short documentary, I can't say I've learned much about Jake Paul. It's a bad boy in the millennial era. Abused by his father, he has lost his grip on reality a bit because he has come to believe very much in his relevance as a media personality. Once started as a kind of Enzo Knol to eventually find out that there is a great boxer in him.
The Jake Paul persona is focused on fame, money, and attention. His daring and dedication to the sport of boxing is commendable, but a bad taste always lingers. Likes, attention, fame and money remain important and this documentary does not have much more to offer than the concept behind the persona.
In reality, it seems like quite a task to me mentally and I sincerely hope that his relationship with Jutta keeps him on the right track and that he eventually turns out to be more than a kind of fighter-boss variant of Donny Roelvink.
Nevertheless, this is a great documentary if you don't know anything about the Jake Paul phenomenon. If you want a little more depth or know more about the individual behind the persona, you might as well skip this documentary.
Finally, it is a pity that his relationship with Jutta is not discussed at all and therefore lacks a chance for more depth and character.
Reasonable but unfortunately also somewhat superficial documentary.
