Sometimes you just feel like watching a film without much theme, without a focus on beautiful image compositions and with a bit of speed. Just a film that offers light entertainment. A film like The Dive, for example. The Dive is the remake of a Swedish film. Not seen the original, so no worries or disappointment. Always nice to be able to watch a film with a fresh perspective.

Two sisters scuba diving together in a paradisiacal environment. A sister gets stuck underwater. The other sister has to free her. An idyllic underwater environment suddenly changes into a menacingly dark place. The contrasting effect generates tension and is successful. The tightness is clearly palpable. Within that successful entourage, even more tension is built up with the question of whether the two sisters will succeed in solving the dire situation. The element of time pressure plays an important role in this. That works. It not only sounds exciting but is also quite exciting.

Two appealing leading roles. Louisa Krause and Sophie Lowe. Little dialogue. The running time of 91 minutes fits perfectly. The film does not stretch situations excessively and hardly allows for excursions that interrupt the tension. The atmosphere remains feverish. The film remains dynamic. The Dive is okay.

Nice review from Collins. That's how it happened to me too. It was blood-curdlingly exciting and nail-biting to watch how those two sisters would fare. I actually thought they were more of a couple that went their own way than sisters, but that's probably my interpretation. Their relationship is not really explored, perhaps too little to offer 'depth' (sic!). What I found strong is that I never got the feeling of 'that's not possible'. No strange tricks to work towards a believable ending. Collins only has a six for it, I have a little more. And don't read all those sour comments on IMDb.

A bit of a standard story where someone gets stuck under water and needs to be rescued. Just about everything that can go wrong does go wrong and the ending is of course no surprise. The cast does their best but it's all mediocre.
