El Último Vagón plot
Young Ikal and his family live on a train traveling across the country. His father, Tomás, repairs and builds railway tracks. This means that the family never stays in the same place for long. But at their last stop, Ikal meets Chico, a rebellious boy he admires, Valeria, an intelligent girl who teaches him about first love, Tuerto, another boy from the railway community, and Quetzal, a mutt whom Ikal chooses as his new owner . The four friends study under Georgina, a ruthless teacher who will do anything for her students with what little she has herself. Together they will help Ikal feel at home for the first time.

A sympathetic, but slow film with a thin story. Still a bit disappointing.
The film beautifully sketches the atmosphere of the life that Ikal, his parents and his friends lead. The acting is also excellent (it must be said: Karrlo Isaacs plays Ikal very convincingly! Very clever!). And I like coming of age stories. Still, I found the film disappointing. The main reason: it is a slow film in which little happens. There is also no tension. I always had the feeling: where does the film want to go? Little drama, few emotions, all a bit flat. But I think this was also the filmmaker's intention. And then it comes down to the question: do you like these types of films or not? It's not really my thing.
Furthermore, the lens is not a bad film. Unfortunately, the story falls a bit flat: you don't learn how Ikal met his new friends, I would have liked to see more of that. You get to know the characters, but not really well. You're left guessing a bit about the proportions and motifs. The ending gave an interesting twist to the story, but unfortunately (for me) that can't save the thin script. Luckily they kept the duration of the film at 1.5, otherwise it would have been a hell of a film.
Not a wasted evening, but still an unsatisfactory feeling. You have to like slow, Spanish films in which little happens and more of an atmospheric picture is painted. If that's what you're looking for, take a look. Otherwise, I think it's better to skip this one. Somewhere between 2 and 2.5 stars.
