Little Richard was and is the architect of Rock 'n Roll. For those who didn't already know, the conventional hour is a lot more startling than for people with some knowledge of the history of the genre. Cortes indulges in visual highlights that somewhat distract from the quality of the music, although this is also because she had to fall back on archive recordings that often do not compare to the single versions that (I can assume) are etched in your memory. The second part, which discusses Little Richard's complex dealings with his orientation and faith, as well as his struggle for the recognition he was due, provides more new insights and is therefore a lot more interesting.

Entertaining documentary about the founder (in his own words) of rock 'n roll; the not exactly modest Little Richard. There is a bit too much coloring within the lines, something that is quite disappointing given the flamboyant subject, but all in all a nice picture is painted of a fascinating, unruly and above all unique artist.
