Theatre of Violence plot

Can someone be held responsible for the crimes that person committed as a child soldier? As a nine-year-old boy, Dominic Ongwen was kidnapped and conscripted into Joseph Kony's army of child soldiers. He was tortured, brainwashed and forced to extreme violence. Some 30 years later, he is the first former child soldier to stand trial at the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity. For his lawyer, this case is much more than a business assignment.

Ugandan Dominic Ongwen was 9 years old when he was recruited by the army of The Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), the rebel army of Joseph Kony. Now he has to answer for his war crimes as an adult before the International Criminal Court in The Hague. This documentary follows Ongwen's team of lawyers as they prepare for a defense. The big question is of course to what extent a child is responsible for what they have been taught by adults and whether the degree of responsibility changes when they become adults in the eyes of the law. A complex issue that leads to interesting discussions in this statically filmed documentary that of course does not provide easy answers. But a good debate starts with asking the right questions and with regard to the theme of child soldiers, this is an excellent starting point for a social debate.
