Everyone wants something from Asian-Canadian student Jake. His father reluctantly pushes him to join the basketball team and his girlfriend wants to take their relationship to the next level. Golden Delicious, the name of Jake's parents' Asian restaurant and also the name of sweet apples...
A coming-of-age drama with a touch of humor. Jake has been in a relationship with high school sweetheart Valerie for years. But everything changes when Aleks moves in across the street from him. The film feels authentic and realistic. It addresses topics such as family, adolescent issues growing up, bullying at school, love affairs, and finding your own identity.
Good balance between interior and exterior scenes, dark and light cinematography. The music is pleasant and fits the film's atmosphere. The actors played their roles convincingly.
The film was enjoyable to watch without becoming sentimental. Highly recommended!
