I don't think Lafosse is an easy director. I thought Continuer (Film, 2018) was weak, but luckily I found more to my liking at Les Intranquilles (Film, 2021) and the similar L'Économie du Couple (Film, 2016) about marital problems.

That is no different with this "Un silence". Based on true facts at the time during the Dutroux period. However, I knew little about this. It is a film shot from the woman's perspective. I thought it was a fairly uncomfortable film, with the major flaw that it didn't affect me. Perhaps a little too unconvincing. A film that does not answer a number of questions. How something like this could happen and with his knowledge. A missed opportunity, especially to take a different approach than his previous films about imploding families.

I try to see every film as open-minded as possible. So no reviews and no trailers beforehand.

Sometimes this viewing attitude takes its revenge. Only after half an hour I had more or less reconstructed what the initial situation is, how the family is structured and that the film consists of one long flashback after the opening. You can also say that the film itself more than lives up to the title in its telling.

What follows is a meticulous account of a family drama without the film falling into judgments. It is a pity that the film extensively depicts the end of this drama - which the viewer already knows after the opening.
