Seen tonight on the Sneak Night. To be honest, I had never heard of this movie before, but I am very pleasantly surprised. Beautiful story, which is mainly carried by the sympathetic main characters played by Fry and Kinnear. There was enough humor to keep a story about banking nice and light. The romance in the story meant that the film sometimes became unnecessarily sugary and, as far as I'm concerned, went off the rails at a number of times.

Otherwise based on the trailer, actors and dragon of a poster I probably never would have gone to see this movie. Still, definitely recommended!

Adaptation of the true story of Dave Fishwick [Rory Kinnear], a Burnley van salesman who saved some friends and acquaintances financially by investing their money well for them. An innocent remark inspires Dave to start his own bank. “Bank of Dave” lends money to the people who really need it and donates the profits to local charities. That is the dream, but for that it must meet a number of conditions that have been put in place to protect the current, large banks. And no one has succeeded in doing that in the last 150 years. Hugh [Joel Fry] is the London lawyer assigned to assist Dave and discovers that Burnley is not as depressing as he expected. Conventional underdog story transcends the menacing mediocrity through well-developed main characters and perfectly chosen protagonists. Kinnear is extremely engaging as Dave and for fans of classic rock there's a guest appearance from one of the genre's absolute giants. A hint: the band is from Burnley!

Sympathetic film about setting up a bank by and for the local community against the grain. “Based on a true(ish) story” . Not a top film, but very nice as a snack.
