Alice runs away from home because her father is moving back in with her and her mother. Mick, a boy she doesn't like, also runs away. He wants to go to his uncle who's at the rodeo. Together they travel to Katherine, in the tropical north of Australia. There Mick is sent back home by his aunt. Alice is left alone in Katherine.
