Cat Person is quite a unique film in which comic moments alternate with a continuous subcutaneous tension where you have the feeling throughout the film that something could go wrong. This is partly due to the fun acting of Emilia Jones (Margot) and the socially awkward Nicholas Braun (the beautifully named Robert). Even though it is an unlikely duo, I believe it creates some kind of attraction. In the meantime, the many worst-case scenarios occasionally provide a light-hearted undertone, but do not become too corny. This is important for the end of the film, because it also shows the dangers of falling into a certain thinking pattern that current society gives you and your chance of overreacting in situations. In that light, I understand Margot's actions. But it does require a fair amount of empathy because there are other ways to feel less unsafe that feel more logical (such as making sure you don't walk home alone after work every evening). In the meantime, Robert can also indicate how he feels about the situation and that a story always has two sides.

Ultimately a beautiful and intense film that goes a little too over the top towards the end. But one that I would like to see more often (I am secretly charmed by Emilia Jones)

Good film about a woman who meets a nice man in the cinema. The progression of the relationship is unusual, to say the least (with the sex scene being both a high and a low point). A bit unbalanced in terms of tone, but plenty of good moments in this original film.

Strange film that varies quite a bit in tone; some scenes are somewhat comical (e.g. the kissing and sex scenes), others are rom-com'y (all the app contact), other scenes there is a thriller-like atmosphere.
As a result, the film also seems to send mixed signals in terms of message: should we take her friend seriously in advance? Are Margot's decisions too impulsive answer: yes, I think so, what are our own prejudices about Robert? Did Robert cross a line answer: yes, I think so? Or is it not all that deep and are we just watching a story about how ambiguity/prejudices/fears about each other's intentions can lead to a "dramatic" denouement?

The film was okay as a viewing experience, there were some nice parts in it, but in terms of tone it was all over the place. Moreover, I just didn't think the ending and everything was very well developed.

3.25*
