"Sweeping drama of Australia's Gold Rush"

Irish emigrant Peter Lalor travels to Victoria, Australia in 1854, where he takes an immediate interest in the gold rush. Moved by the miners' aspirations and disgusted by the indifferent government and ruthless law enforcement, he becomes spokesperson for the miners after giving a fiery speech on their behalf. Lalor is elected to legally represent the reform movement. His actions set the stage for a pivotal moment in Australia's evolving democracy.
