Film about the volunteer movement, which fought underground in France in the early 1970s for the right to abortion and contraception. A feminist film that mainly emphasizes the determination and togetherness of the women. As a film not very special, as a historical fact all the more so.

It is 1973 (the year of Roe v. Wade) and in France, too, doctors and 'ordinary' women are busy pressuring the government to give women the legal option of contraception and abortion of their own choice. Annie [Laura Calamy] has an abortion herself and after a tragic event decides to join one of the 200 or so groups that illegally, but certainly not secretly, offer abortions. Lenoir and co-writer Axelle Ropert spend too much time on abortion performances and on ethical and political discussions. By far the best moments regarding the changing relationship between Annie and her family, with the scenes with her sixteen-year-old daughter Caroline [Louise Labeque] being the most impressive. Emphatically pro-choice propaganda takes at least half an hour longer than necessary and is too reminiscent of Angry Jane, which premiered more than six months earlier.

Sex, life and death, oppression, revolution and liberation…. I think of that when the phenomenon of the abortion clinic came into being. Exciting themes, but nothing like that, the film is documentary-like and colors neatly within the lines to the good.

Actually exactly what you would expect from it. Not badly made, but very boring and predictable, and also too long.
