Hotel Sinestra plot
During a ski holiday at the Swiss Hotel Sinestra, eleven-year-old Ava, in an angry mood, wishes her overprotective parents away. The next morning all adults appear to have disappeared from the streets. The children are free to do whatever they want. It doesn't take long for something to go wrong. When the hotel goes out of power, Ava and her new friends struggle to find their parents so they can celebrate Christmas together.

Nice video. I was secretly not expecting it, but I had a great time. The children also liked it, and were also surprised by the excellent acting of Bobbie Mulder (Ava). Nice atmosphere, beautiful images of an equally beautiful location and a good playing time.

Novice teenager Ava [Bobbie Mulder] is on a skiing holiday with her parents [Elise Schaap and Jeroen Spitzenberger] and is staying at Hotel Sinestra, a former sanatorium. There she meets Jonas [Otto Naessens], who has been 11 years old “for a long time”. He claims that Ava can make a wish because of the red moon. Ava doesn't take it seriously, but wishes all adults would disappear. The next day there are no adults to be seen and it's all about fun at Hotel Sinestra, but Ava decides to look for a way to get all the parents back. Ideal Christmas film for the whole family with excellent performances by the young protagonists, a great supporting cast and a scenario that will appeal to the child in all of us.

"The whole world is orphaned..." Nice story, beautifully designed and told at a good pace, with excellent acting and especially the right intonation and dialogue treatment by Bobbie Mulder as Ava, and Otto Naessens has exactly the right appearance for the pixie-like Jonas. Nice alienating scene in the church, and surprisingly dark scenes in the hotel after the blackout. All in all a fine children's film that also has something to offer for adults, with the only real downside for me being the somewhat excessive music. Funny detail: the old black-and-white film that the children are watching is Carl Theodor Dreyer's Vampyr (1932).
