Capturing the Killer Nurse plot

Charlie Cullen was an experienced nurse, trusted and loved by his colleagues at Somerset Medical Center in New Jersey. He was also one of history's most prolific serial killers, with a death toll possibly in the hundreds. This documentary reveals the twisted story behind Cullen's hidden string of murders. Using sound clips from Cullen himself and conversations with those closest to the events — including whistleblower and fellow nurse Amy Loughren, the detectives who solved the case, author Graeber, and relatives of the victims — the film shows how the truth was initially too shocking for anyone to comprehend.

Amy Loughren, Donna Hargreaves, and Charles Cullen formed a close-knit, well-functioning team at Somerset Medical Center and were known as 'The Three Musketeers'. What Amy and Donna could not have foreseen was that Charles had already killed at least dozens of patients “to put them out of their misery.” Hawkins reconstructs the investigation that ultimately led to Cullen’s conviction, but also how it was possible that he could continue doing his “work” for years (though not unnoticed!) and with impunity. A harrowing story with a suspenseful conclusion, marred by the use of clumsy 'reconstructions' and stylistic devices to heighten the tension. Filmed in the same year as The Good Nurse starring Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain.
