About an annoying, competitive and narcissistic couple who are constantly competing for attention. When Thomas achieves some success as an artist, Signe becomes so provoked that she proceeds to self-injure to get attention. She is psychologically unstable. That much is clear. Is that comical? Well no.

Yet the film bills itself as a comedy. In my opinion, writer and director Kristoffer Borgli makes rather a psychological drama decorated with some body horror and surrealism that arises from the protagonist's delusions. She thereby isolates herself from reality and that gives the film a touch of sadness that in turn is the breeding ground on which humor can be born. Anyway, that with that humor is not an issue in this film.

Self-destruction is on the agenda. Signe goes far in this. In her struggle to be the center of attention, she takes physical decay into the bargain. Only when she is noticed does she feel important and her life has meaning. What others see in her or about her is irrelevant to her. As long as she's noticed. Therein lies the humor. Into the abyss into which Signe is prepared to plunge. The abysses are a breeding ground for a specific kind of black humor to which I am apparently not sensitive.

Syk Pike isn't necessarily a bad movie. Not that. I just didn't care for the characters at all and I was only able to detect a glimpse of the supposed humor sporadically. I liked the psychological aspect. Little else click here.

The film is about the disease of our time: narcissism. Both the man and the woman of the couple in the film are completely narcissistic so that they can't stand it if even their own partner gets a moment's attention instead of themselves and that narcissism also gets in the way of honesty. The woman in particular lies nonstop and goes to great lengths to become the center of attention for which she is willing to destroy even her own body because victims simply get a lot of attention in our 'inclusive' society. There is also a name for this phenomenon: Munchhausen syndrome. The woman is really sick because mentally disturbed. She is 'sick of herself' and becomes so when things get out of hand, but then narcissism only expresses itself in self-pity as a new form of narcissism and which is also a social disease in the form of the many support groups for victims .

The film explicitly addresses narcissism as a social disease, but does not do much surprising with it (at the most, the film is sometimes a bit confusing because it mixes fantasy and reality). All in all, it is a reasonable but also not very special social satire that does not reach the sometimes brilliant level of Östlund's comparable films.

Partly because she is tired of being in the shadow of her artist friend [Eirik Sæther], Signe [Kristine Kujath Thorp] has a way of demanding attention in a pathetic way. Because of a bizarre, especially at the sandwich shop who she works for, she discovers a way with which she can draw attention to herself. Not only by her immediate surroundings, but by the whole world. But soon the negative effects start to weigh more and more heavily. Black comedy about social media-driven narcissism with great acting from Kujath Thorp. Unfortunately, her character is so sad and the humor so hypothermic that the jokes often kill. An interesting basic fact, but poorly developed.
