Great movie. Gives exactly what you can expect. Loosely based on the story of Edward 'Ned' Sullivan with the monkey 'Kasey'. The mother (Ellen) has written the book 'Kasey to the Rescue: The Remarkable Story of a Monkey and a Miracle' for those who want to learn more about the real story. The film itself is fine, as indicated above, but does not rise above average. All the elements you would expect are there: the accident, the close family bond, the drama, some romance, the difficult moments and the victories. Camera work is fine, acting is also good (I especially thought Marcia Gay Harden did a very good job!). I didn't always find Charlie Rowe convincing in his emotions. The film music was perhaps a little too sappy at times. The story appears realistic and believable. You can't really fault it much. I also found it interesting to learn a little more about how monkeys were used as 'service animals' until quite recently. Great 3 star movie.

Quite nice. Some things in the storyline seemed a bit improbable, or seemed to have been worked out a bit hastily. Like the animal activists who were suddenly very fanatical, the lawsuit that was held very soon after the party, and the move at the end also seemed to be arranged in a jiffy.

At first I thought it was a nice film but in my opinion the makers choose too much the side of Nate and his family for a monkey as a service animal. At one point the monkey jumps right through the shelves of the supermarket which is of course very unhygienic. Dogs are not even allowed in my supermarket. If someone says something about it, she is presented as a kind of false witch without any empathy. I think it is all not very pure and it still leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. If that boy is so attached to that monkey then he can keep it as far as I am concerned but in general the use of monkeys as service animals does not seem necessary or desirable. I also found the reason for the spinal cord injury a bit far-fetched and also deviating from the real story.
