Les Bourreaux de Staline - Katyn, 1940 plot

2020 will mark the 80th anniversary of the Katyn massacre, a massacre attributed to the Nazis for 50 years but ultimately turned out to be the work of the NKVD. It was only after the fall of the USSR that Mikhail Gorbachev admitted that the thousands of Polish soldiers were being executed by the secret Soviet police. Using archive material and animations, this film tells the story of the massacre on the part of both the victims and the executioners.

Piercing documentary produced by ARTE with a very pleasant voice over. Scenes from Wajda's Katyn should not be missed, of course. I found it shocking that Churchill gave in to Stalin's demands during the Tehran Conference in 1943 to respect the agreements in the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact after the defeat of Nazi Germany. The British Prime Minister carelessly allowed Poland to move towards the West by moving one of three matchsticks. Partly because of this, the mass graves remained hidden for a long time.
