Love & Gelato plot
Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she's not in the mood for Italy's famous sunshine and fairytale landscape. She's only there because it was her mother's last wish that she would get to know her father. But which father has been out of the picture for sixteen years? All Lina wants is to go home. But then she gets a diary that her mother kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly, Lina discovers a magical world of secret romances, art and hidden bakeries.

Not a bad romantic film, but not a high-flyer either. The setting being Rome and Florence makes up for a lot. It's about a girl who discovers herself in Rome and in the meantime meets two nice boys and therefore (predictably) has to make a choice. Some nice plot twists and a few attempts at emotional drama, but it just didn't grab me enough to call this one a winner in its genre. Lead actress Suzanna Skaggs makes her first film debut here (she has already appeared in three series) and does not do too badly. There is something cute, chaotic and clumsy (the latter must be her role) but it comes across as quite believable and not forced. I think we'll hear from her again. The two co-stars (boys) are Tobia De Angelis who does a very good job as an innocent and ordinary boy and Saul Nanninga, who plays the rich man's son, but seems a bit too artificial and forced for me. It is a fun film that is certainly not boring and the 110 minutes are over in no time. Has beautiful atmospheric images, but I have seen better ones in this genre. 3*
