"No roads, electricity or water. But the best cup of coffee in the county."

In Southern California's poorest desert area is the anarchic squatter town of Slab City. The inhabitants live off the radar. Nearby is the US Navy, which carries out aerial bombardments and live ammunition in the area. Rob is one of the residents of Slab City. Every morning he gets up at six to make coffee for the customers of his ramshackle internet cafe, despite his dislike of coffee. 'Desert Coffee' paints an intimate portrait of Rob and his friends, a motley crew of colourful, quirky and troubled figures who call their home the last free place in America.
