Noah (35) loves his girlfriend Lea (30) and his daughter Zita (6), but he couldn't live without his car. When his new cousin Carlos offers him a driver job, he takes it. The most insane ride through the city of Antwerp starts in the coolest car in town. A race where Noah will lose either his life, his family or his beloved car.

Not that much expected, especially since I had hardly heard anything about it beforehand. Good luck in the end.
Anyway, I like movies where one particular day gets more and more manic/weirder/funnier. Reminded me of movies like U-Turn or Very Bad Things, kind of the same kind of humor. There are 100 other comparisons to be made with all kinds of directors and films, but Govaerts mainly makes it a film that exudes Antwerp + 90s. And there aren't really many of those.
It's also great that the film was filmed entirely in one car, and that I only realized that afterwards. Quite a lot happens and there is enough visual inventiveness, so that you don't feel limited by that limited camera freedom. Soundtrack is close to what I listened to 30 years ago, but also especially nice that Govaerts does not limit the impact of the music too much, with some smart editing here and there even adds impact.
Furthermore, you cannot ignore Dimitri Vegas, who is doing quite well, yet it is mainly Jeroen Perceval who stays with us. He comes up with one of the greatest caricatures ever, goes 300% over the top, but is always funny. I also didn't really expect tribute for the absurd elements that seep into the film later.
While Welp is primarily a stylistic exercise of well-known genre elements, H4Z4RD is a film that underlines the freedom and inventiveness of genre films. Wonderful piece of cinema that gets better by the minute.

The previous movie I saw with Jeroen Perceval was Dealer and it didn't really appeal to me. And I only know Dimitri Vegas by name as half of the duo with his Like Mike. But Jonas Govaerts did have a striking film in 2014 with Welp, a horror film about a scout camp. He made Tabula Rasa in between, but he is finally back with a 2nd feature film. And it was worth waiting so long!
We follow Dimitri Vegas as the driver of his beloved car that he takes care of down to the last detail. It drives with the finesse of Frank from The Transporter. If you ever wonder what such a film looks like in a city like Antwerp with all the lights, works, diversions and small streets, you will certainly be well off in this film. Because without giving much away it is of course not just cruising in a big box. From the moment his ride leaves, you are also part of a great rat race in which anything is possible and Jonas Govaerts goes beyond what you as a viewer dared to think would happen.
Jeroen Perceval plays one of his better roles and Dimitri Vegas also does quite well. Too bad we don't get to see Jennifer Heylen in the picture for long. But also very nice images and with a DJ as the protagonist, the music is also good of course. Without too many expectations, but with enough confidence, I am really positively blown away by this movie. A wonderfully absurd and up tempo film that takes you on an impressive ride without stopping anywhere. I came out of the cinema with a smile.

Reasonable film about a man who is rather attached to his car and is the driver for his cousin for a day. A nice gimmick where the camera does not leave the car. The pace is high and it is therefore a fairly busy film (with a well-matched soundtrack). Thick characters and more than enough happens (only not everything is fun). A narrow 3.0 stars.
