Nice, great vampire movie.

I thought he was going a little too fast, but I actually didn't mind.

Visually also in order, especially since it is so old.

What did annoy me were the English voices I found them very superficial at times.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust was my first anime movie and will therefore (despite the disappointment at the last rewatch) always have a special place in my heart. I had never come across the original, so I was pleasantly surprised that RuudC had managed to find it on VHS. Unfortunately only in English dub, but I was already used to this with the sequel. Unfortunately, they had invested a bit more time and effort in the voice actors there, because despite the fact that it was still not great there, the voices here were dramatically uninteresting. Still costs my film experience at least half a point.

Furthermore, it is still a fairly standard 80s splatter anime movie without any significant script or characters. What is nice is the amount of different monsters and the interesting soundtrack. It's a pity that it doesn't do much to add anything special, with the exception of the severed hand that put itself back on again. Also not bad to see once, in Japanese was most likely a much more pleasant.

Boring, ramshackle anime movie with a pretty interesting story. I can also hardly say that the film is not creative, only directors Ashida and Macek hardly do anything with it. All ideas are processed quickly between them and hardly correlate with the synopsis. Then there are the main characters. D is supposed to represent a cool figure, but I found him mostly weak and vulnerable. As soon as he besieges that castle, he is almost immediately knocked out by sirens. Doris Lang is already quite harrowing. These kind of crybabies are simply too old-fashioned for a film like this, which, in my opinion, wants to look fairly modern despite the setting. The limited animation is of course due to the time period, but it does ensure that no action moment catches on. I am pleased with the use of color and there are some nice moments in between, but these kinds of films will never be my thing.
