Watchable and quite atmospheric drama, with an edge of mystery surrounding it. I already had some things to think about in the right direction, intense sadness and not being able to resolve the fact, which really made me experience it as a drama film, but there was nothing wrong with that. Film does not seem to find a larger audience for the time being. Still worth watching. I'm going for a 7/10.

Mediocre.

The director has actually managed to add a few films to this industry. They may not have been good films, but Monstrous clearly exudes a certain degree of quality. It's obviously not very good yet, but among the many deeply sad works that are being released, this film feels just a little bit better.

This film does not rely so much on the concept of monsters, but attempts to find balance on some deeper topics. That ultimately works against the film, because the film relies on the fairly scarce horror elements. The effects are very reasonable, the cinematography is also quite nice and the filters during the more atmospheric scenes are very nice.

Less is the somewhat bland decoration of the surroundings. It does feel very frumpy the way this film is decorated and Ricci's appearance doesn't exactly help that. It's a bit on the simple, uncreative side. Furthermore, the film does not run particularly well, because the large dose of drama is simply not that effective. If it does take up such a large part of the film, it means that for an overwhelming part it simply doesn't work.

The acting is nice, the mysterious aspect is quite fascinating, but unfortunately the film does not offer much more than that. It's harmless fodder among the many horror films coming out these days, but that doesn't mean it really goes way above the line. You will hit them worse, but in turn you will also hit them much, much better.

Where do they keep getting those bad films? And a golden tip, if you let someone smoke, take someone who has ever seen a cigarette, because otherwise it seems really ridiculous. Can come up with a whole story, but this is just bad, as the 4.7 on IMBD indicates.....a crap film
