Meh.

Wu Assassin was pretty fun - the first three episodes that is. I looked again for the occasion, but just like last time I couldn't get through. Completely justified that Netflix has not renewed the series, you would think, but why this sequel? It's a mystery to me actually.

That Reiné can't save this business doesn't surprise anyone - Basto puts it very tautly, 'the Dutch Uwe Bol', that's painfully close. Still, the original cast is coming back and I always appreciate that, and the addition of Corney works too. It's a pity that it all doesn't work out after all, and I'm afraid that really depends on the script and direction. There are a few nice actions in the film - the trick with the nails, physically it doesn't make sense, but it is spectacular. Would have kept that level in the action, but no - misses like somewhere halfway, that a line comes along like 'what a nice move that was, I had never seen that before'. Well neither did we, because hands and feet were out of the picture. Then the sort-of slow-mo final fight is the worst of all.

Too bad for Uwais, the hero of the perfect Serbuan Maut and Berandal, you would wish him something better.

I didn't immediately realize it was a sequel to a series. It also looks quite chaotic with the look of a long series episode. Bad acting and the fight scenes are messy. Perhaps fans of the series can make something of this, but if the intention is to lure people to the series with this film, it has not succeeded.

A film full of plastic characters, badly choreographed action scenes and a cliché story.

The action scenes seemed to show how great fighters the 'heroes' are.

And lacks any kind of tension, and is an uninteresting piece of work.
