Alain [Alain Chabat] and Marie [Léa Drucker] move into a house with a magical passageway and Alain's college Gérard [Benoît Magimel] has had an 'incredible' transplant that has pleased his girlfriend [Anaïs Demoustier]. Giving more clarity to the plot would destroy any hope of having any fun watching this film, so suffice it to say that Dupieux has worked out two lame "jokes" in a pitiful way and that the only thing that is "unbelievable" but what is true about this film, the fact is that he has managed to collect money for this from several institutions. It barely takes 70 minutes, but it feels like an eternity. Just a comedy on paper.

Jue love it or hate it appears to be a case of jue love it or hate it. I'm in #teamlove. Quentin Dupieux is fast becoming one of my favorite directors. I think he already is. His absurdism continues to surprise (me), also because he refuses to make the same film over and over. With Deerskin the humor was between the lines, Mandibules went towards real comedy, and here it is a bit in between.

I think it's great that the scenes about the electronic penis don't lean too heavily on the penis in terms of 'funny'. It's all much more subtle than that, it's in facial expressions, camera shots, safe words, and would have been just as funny if it had gone over an ear or a hand.

Unlike in his previous films, the theme - the midlife crisis - is quite thick this time, but although you as a viewer probably don't doubt which side you are on, it is different for the characters: both he and she are satisfied with the choice made.

By the way, 74 minutes is a great length for a movie. Not for every film of course, but there are enough films of at least an hour and a half that will improve if you cut out fifteen minutes.

With a Dupieux you know not to expect a normal movie. Not that things are going extremely crazy here, but that tunnel under Alain and Marie's new house does make a difference. It leads to a ruthless idea-fixe that gets completely out of hand.

You also have contacts with Alain's boss, who can be called bizarre to say the least. That mechanical penis introduces it, but there's something more wrong with that guy.

Great running time of the film indeed. Anything that would have lasted longer would have detracted from the whole. Surrealistic and absurd with the dry humor of Dupieux. Not his best, but otherwise certainly digestible.
