Emily plot

"The imagination behind Wuthering Heights."

Biography of the life of the English writer Emily Brontë. Born in 1818 in the town of Thornton, she is the middle of the three Brontë sisters, after Charlotte and before Anne. Their older two sisters died at a young age in 1825. As children, the sisters moved with their brother Branwell and their parents to Haworth, where their father Patrick held a position as a minister. This is also where the sisters' literary talent originated. Emily begins writing poetry and will later become known as the author of 'Wuthering Heights', a classic of English literature. We follow the journey to womanhood of a rebel and an outcast, one of the world's most famous, mysterious and provocative writers who will die too young of tuberculosis at the age of thirty.

A lackluster biopic about Emily Brontë and her sisters Charlotte and Anne on the side. The beautiful images of the environment make more of an impression than the unexciting story.

Immediately afterwards I dusted off the film adaptation of her masterpiece “Wuthering Heights”, more specifically William Wyler's masterful version from 1939 with Merle Oberon and Laurence Olivier in the lead roles. That is a much better film than this somewhat disappointing biography.

Charlotte [Alexandra Dowling], Emily [Emma Mackey], Anne [Amelia Gething] and Branwell Brontë [Fionn Whitehead] died of tuberculosis before they turned 40, but the three sisters left with “Jane Grey”, “The Tenant of Wildfell Hall”, "Jane Eyre" and "Wuthering Heights" left an impressive literary legacy. This film tells the family story through the eyes of Emily, who died shortly after the publication of her first book. It is a lively portrait of a free-spirited young woman who also tries to show how and to what extent her life story influences “Wuthering Heights”. Mackey is excellent in the leading role and O'Connor keeps the momentum going in this fine production.

So many films like this have been made from this period, and every cliché is also present here, beautiful shots, beautiful women, rainy mountain landscapes, but I love it. I've been enjoying! The film is long, but could have been a bit longer, I suddenly found the ending a bit rushed.
