During the Cold War, Sergey Serebrennikov [Tom Prior] is a soldier in the Russian army. When his best friend Volodya [Jake Henderson] notices that Luisa [Diana Pozharskaya] is interested in Volodya, he tries to set them up. But oops, their lieutenant [Oleg Zagorodnii] turns out to have a crush on Volodja and he discovers that he has homosexual feelings. Of course that is not possible in the Red Army and so the two lovers do everything they can to keep their relationship a secret. The umpteenth drama about the social stigma that homosexuality carries with it. In many countries this may be a shocking fact, but for a more enlightened society (and audience) like ours, it's all on the tame side, despite the good acting.

We thought this was a good movie. Too bad it was English. The actors could have played better in their own language. But otherwise the movie looked good. You can also see that quite a lot of money has been put into it. With the airplane scenes and the locations, etc.

The 2 protagonists were unknown to me, but played convincingly. You also got sympathetic to both characters, which made the story seem believable. The lady as the 3rd main character also played very well.

It's a true story and that doesn't surprise me. There will be many men in the military and indeed in all professions who struggle with their sexuality. Especially in that time of 1977.

Curious about the current situation in Estonia, for example? If you came out?

In Russia, in any case, you should not try.

Very much worth watching this movie.
