This was quite a strange sensation.

Until the protagonist has found what he is looking for, this is really a fantastic film.

Original, surprising, fun, funny, beautiful, strange, and so on.

From that moment on it changes. Why so many destinations?

Why is so little done with it, except to show that it is possible?

And why is nothing done with the risk of just going to a place?

The film is from The Jim Henson Company, among others, and in the last part you even have the idea that you are watching the Muppets. It almost feels schizophrenic.

How do you score this. The fantastic part gets a 4.5 from me. From the ink moment I keep it at a 2.5 because the plot is still original and the decor is still beautiful. On average I still get a 3.5.

PS: I now understand why the most important tip from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is not to forget your towel.

Thought this was a fun movie although it's a mix of everything that's been done before. At first I thought it would be something like Fantastic Beasts but I kept watching until the end. Perhaps also because Sophie Wilde is secretly an attractive woman.

A job interview doesn't go as expected for Paul Carpenter [Patrick Gibson], but it does get him work at Humphrey Wells' [Christoph Waltz] company. He sees that Paul has a special talent with which he can play a key role in the search for a magical 'portable door'. A lucrative job that Paul throws himself into with dedication, until he realizes that Humphrey and his agent [Sam Neill] want to use this door for sinister purposes. The strong supporting cast makes up for this uninspiringly written fantasy that is further undermined by the uncharming Gibson and the lackluster chemistry between him and love interest Sophie Wilde. Enjoyable, but not exactly memorable.
