The Ritual Killer plot
Lucas Boyd tries to make sense of his daughter's death. As a detective, he is on the trail of a serial killer who kills according to the muti, a tribal ritual. The search for the killer takes its toll on Boyd's mental health. He enlists the help of anthropologist Mackles who is hiding a secret.

Separate plot, in addition to thriller also a bit of mystery, which becomes increasingly messy as the film progresses. Despite the fact that I'm a bit tired of Freeman (he was once quite good) I still dared to try this ritual killer. Apart from the improbable surrounding Randoku, Mackles' role soon became clear, especially towards the end. The final, the last scene with Boyd was even dramatically badly made up. Good thing the playing time was short.
What also strikes me is Freeman's straight face on the movie poster; in reality, he's starting to look like he got run over by a truck anyway.

Detective Lucas Boyd [Cole Hauser] investigates a bizarre series of murders that he connects to traditional African rituals. So he enlists the help of Dr. Mackles [Morgan Freeman] who concludes from the evidence that it is Muti, a form of magic used by traditional medicine men. Standard detective thriller comes to life when the sinister killer (an impressive Vernon Davis) appears and has a not-so-nice finale. Furthermore, this is formulaic and routine. Freeman's contribution, incidentally, does not amount to much.

but Morgan Freeman's contribution is, very, very minimal.
