Like Ken Loach's films, this film provides sharp social criticism in a realistic-looking and therefore convincing way, this time targeting the multinational that places numbers (profit) above people (staff). The staggering drama shows a chilling hierarchy in which not even a person stands at the top but only the 'market' with the value expressed in the stock price, which like an inhuman monster demands 'brave' leaders who dare to make 'brave' decisions that mean that the people on the shop floor and other subordinates are fired, exploited and cheated.

I expected an escalation of tension and drama, until the main character, the director of a branch in France who has to lay off 10% of its staff, who is going through a divorce because of his workload and whose son is in an institution, becomes enraged and throwing things around, but actually there is more of a slow, almost imperceptible de-escalation where the director resists more and more because his limit has been reached and refuses to cooperate only to finally give up, which, however, is exactly is the truly courageous decision that saves his dignity, marriage and happiness: only outside the market and neoliberal business can you be human and maintain human values.

The film impresses with its strong dialogues, in which cold capitalism shows its true monstrous face, and good acting, but the lack of escalation has something unsatisfactory, although it realistically underlines the omnipotence of neoliberalism which cannot be fought.

Philippe Lemesle [Vincent Lindon] is the director of a household goods factory that is part of an international, unnamed 'group'. At home he complains so much about his work that his wife [Sandrine Kiberlain] is about to file for divorce. to ask. The stress only increases when it turns out that son Lucas [Anthony Bajou], who uses 'special care', has attacked an attendant with a compass. Moreover, Philippe is ordered to lay off 58 employees, while those employees are complaining about enormous work pressure. Portrait of a man who becomes completely entangled in his loyalty and the will to please everyone as much as possible. During the work discussions, the camera almost always remains pointed at Lindon and we see how the frustration increases. The question, of course, remains how he manages to get out of this confluence of circumstances. Lindon is nothing short of brilliant, but the dramatic climax comes when Jerry Hickey makes his video link appearance as Cooper, the big boss.

Good film about a manager of a factory of an international company who has to implement cutbacks. Realistically and without any frills portrayed. The film can appear a bit boring on the surface and is indeed a bit monotonous, but underneath there is enough going on. The stress, workload and conflict within the main character are clearly visible in Vincent London's acting. Easily 3.5 stars.
