Silent Night plot
"Surviving Christmas just got a little harder."
Nell and Simon are a privileged couple living in the countryside with their three sons. They want to celebrate Christmas with some old friends and their families. During the party they have conversations about current themes. It promises to be an eventful evening.

Silent Night from director Camille Griffins takes the imminent end of humanity as the trigger for a gathering of a privileged family in a large mansion and their hopeless farewell to each other. A farewell marked by false conviviality and a curious unworldliness that characterizes the characters.
The film uses a phenomenal form of resentment and shouting that dominates in every scene and leaves no room for nuance. The superficiality, high self-esteem and self-centeredness of the characters are suffocating and prevent things like humor or emotion from finding their way into the film. Anyway, I didn't notice them.
The themes are presented in a plastic way. Man has spent it on this planet and will not survive. People who drive big cars, live in a big mansion and throw a decadent feast are the suspected main culprits. The younger generation is angry because the older generation laconically accepts the end of the world and ignores the question of guilt. As long as the champagne is chilled and the family dinner is pleasant.
The characters are annoying. Even the tense moments that occur at every family gathering are not played out astutely or humorously, but disappear into the irritating layer of disinterest that the schematically designed characters possess. It's exhausting to watch.
Since the concept of the film persists in displaying the inflexibility of the characters and no other directions are taken, the seat is mostly tedious and meaningless.

Quite intriguing film, which roughly summarizes humanity/modern world in just under an hour and a half. Film crosses different genres and the result is quite surprisingly captivating.

Surprising comedy drama. The story is quite nice and has an unexpected twist. The beginning is almost like a traditional romcom with a fair amount of humor. The humor is black and quite cynical, with some successful jokes. Towards the end it goes in a completely different direction and the quarters fall. The drama takes over but still with some humor. The combination of romcom, comedy and drama is quite daring, which not everyone will appreciate. The acting is perfectly fine and especially the young Davis has talent for the profession. The soundtrack with many well-known tracks is appropriate. A bit of an odd mix but tasty. 3.5/4.0
