You would expect some time to pass before you can write with any insight about the consequences that the COVID crisis has and has had on society as a whole, on people individually and on family relationships. Screenwriter Dennis Kelly, however, manages to come up with a screenplay in the middle of the crisis that is an accumulation of sharp observations and is also a perfect mix of tragedy and comedy. James McAvoy and Sharon Horgan star in this breakdown of family life during London's lockdown. Sometimes optimism and humor dominate, at other times despair dominates, but the emotions are always recognizable and excellently expressed and played. The actors speak directly to the viewer and the film takes place entirely in the home of the two main characters, which makes it feel a bit stage-like, but given the quality of the screenplay and the acting, that should not be a problem.

Nice film about a couple who can't stand each other and have to go into lockdown because of the covid pandemic. Almost a play (one location and only 3 actors). And also quite theatrical in terms of acting. A number of long takes and James McAvoy and Sharon Horgan are well attuned to each other. It does get a bit monotonous.

There are quite a few films about the pandemic in the meantime, but this is by far the best so far. In any case, the narrative has been hit painfully hard - relationship hassles, deceased relatives, the doubt about how it is now all over and how to move on. Not easy to watch, a lot comes to my mind as I watch, and I am also reminded once again of the anger and annoyance at the attitude of some former friends and acquaintances - the anti-virtue people, so to speak. Perhaps better described as the people who are no good, who have lost a screw, who have lost their way forever.

The choice to spit almost the entire dialogue straight into the 4th wall works wonderfully well - like you're visiting a friendly couple you haven't seen in a long time. Perfectly suited to this subject, and incredibly well done. McAvoy and Horgan then do that quite well, and convince as a couple that indeed lives on each other's lips for too long. I didn't find it monotonous anywhere, and the playing time flew by. I must say that the ending did not suit me very well, although it is perhaps unavoidable to choose such an ending.
