Excruciatingly bad, but occasionally funny because it's so bad. I think this was also the intention; the film doesn't take itself seriously at all. Therefore a mild two stars.

All the misery in the world is forgotten like snow in the sun thanks to the beautiful eyes of this enchantingly beautiful Cinderella. Sometimes I have those moments when I can and want to be enchanted. All positivity with indeed excellent choreography and the music is even better than that commercial crap from the Top2000. The fairy tale is of course as sappy and soft as an overcooked stewed pear, but with this Cinderella, breakfast on Pluto seems like a treat.

Director Kay Cannon's modern reworking has nothing to do with the Walt Disney Studios, but obviously borrows some inspiration from the classic story. Everything within this film screams that it should be as contemporary as possible, but it also forgets to add creativity. Ultimately, it is mainly the combination of medieval themes and contemporary influences that appears not to have been fully thought through, but by that I don't really mean the political side. Cannon & Co regularly borrow classic pop songs, which they then musically adapt, but copy the rhythm more or less exactly. I can't say that I hated the songs, but in the end you notice that they didn't put much effort into it musically and were mainly interested in the choreography. However, that also does not exactly excel, nor does the nervous acting of Camila Cabello. Cannon regularly interrupts the film for a fairly meaningless music number, which means that the film structurally has little to say, but the songs continue at a good pace. Despite the many controversies, I found Billy Porter's role convincing and Cabello's singing of course strong. Due to the illogical structure and the lack of substantive added value, Cinderella is a film that regularly falls flat, but ultimately not a cinematic disaster.
