Meh. Much more had lived there.
The film is sick in the same bed as many other action films. Just think of something like John Wick, with such fast-paced action that you can barely keep up with what's happening and lack any tension. But less action.
Although Protege does try to tell more story. But with every small and big twist, the film only gets more unbelievable, until eventually it really doesn't work anymore. I also thought the ending was very weak. The motivations of the characters also remain poorly developed.
Robert Patrick really doesn't get hit. And Jackson can't save it either. Maggie Q has no charisma. Michael Keaton can still go wild, but is actually a bit too old.

A standard revenge movie but with an above average cast. Unfortunately Keaton and Jackson can't hide the fact that this is a very poor attempt within the genre. Apart from the obvious flaws, the negative editing of this film, which is not exactly streamlined, is particularly striking. As if the editor just randomly cut something here and there.
The only thing that is really tight and strong about The Protégé is Maggie Q's body.

Nice film about a woman who was rescued as a child by a hit man with whom she now works. An action film that easily looks away, but does not really excel at anything. The plot isn't exactly engaging, but entertaining enough. The scenes between Maggie Q and Michael Keaton are entertaining.
