Homunculus plot
Susumu Nokoshi once worked for a top foreign financial company. Now he is a 34-year-old homeless man, usually found around a park in Shinjuku. In addition, he suffers from amnesia. Then he meets medical student Manabu Ito, who is looking for volunteers to undergo surgery. The surgery involves drilling a hole in the skull. Susumu is not interested in the operation, but he agrees for 700,000 yen. After the surgery, the line between reality and illusion blurs for him when he finds that he can see people's deepest frustrations.

Mediocre.
Quite entertaining at times, especially in the beginning when it is still a bit of discovering which direction the film wants to go. Visually some colors here and there, but nothing special. It all looks smooth though. I had expected a bit more rarities; in that respect it remains accessible. At times, the movie is comical.
But over time it does get a little less. One cannot maintain the level towards the climax, a better cast could have helped. Especially Manabu Ito failed to charm me at any time. And so it all kind of bleeds to death. Unfortunately.

Separate video that at first sight is not really on my line, but works out better than you would suspect in advance. Perhaps too special given the bizarre plot in which the story has really strange twists, but becomes clearer as a whole towards the end. The climax is surprising. There are a few gory scenes in the film, but the fantasy has the upper hand. The effects are also very special, weird in design ... but beautifully made.
The story is not always exciting and loses some of its power in the middle. Given the effects and the design of the bizarre story that has an original approach, the film still manages to entertain enough. 6.5/10
