Stanley Kubrick's third short film and truly the worst he's ever made. Apparently Fear & Desire, also from 1953, wouldn't be much better but I can't imagine it being that much worse than this. Kubrick again uses his familiar documentary style from Day of the Fight and Flying Padre with the only difference that this short lasts half an hour. Way too long for a topic like this. The Seafarers is therefore a simple promotional film where you only realize thanks to the credits that it is a Kubrick. You can barely get through with that boring voice-over, only the opening monologue by Don Hollenbeck is still somewhat worth the effort.

Well, not much cinematic to discover. This is purely a documentary shot from a commercial point of view. Technically not special except for editing some images supplemented with a monotonous narration and some old-fashioned jolly music. The subject mattered only moderately to me. No discerning hand from what would later become the great Kubrick. Little memorable. You won't miss anything if you ignore this one...
