'Escape from Spiderhead' is set in the near future, where two convicts live in a facility run by a doctor. This doctor conducts experiments on the prisoners with drugs that affect the emotions. Kosinski goes Netflix.

For a while this service went a bit better, but in the meantime it's like they've given up hope for an Oscar. Kosinski has achieved quite a bit of success in his career as a director, including in the concept field. So you would think that with enough freedom he could come a long way, but nothing turns out to be less true.

In any case, the film just leans too much on star power. Hemsworth was obviously chosen to just attract some extra viewers to the screen, but he doesn't fit the role at all. It's like casting an elephant to play a mouse. It just doesn't work. Counter is a bit better, but the other reels are mostly invisible. Attempts to build up chemistry quickly fail.

The design is quite nicely done, although it is clear that it remains limited in construction. We are in limited locations. They are fascinating in their own way, although Kosinski does just too little to squeeze out that little extra. Visually, it simply lacks power in terms of editing and editing, while you can pull off fun tricks with subjects such as drugs and brainwashing.

It's a flat event that easily looks away and easily reaches the level of a Netflix original, but then it can do little extra to rise above the level. Kosinski will probably look back on this film with some disappointment among all his success, but he really caused it himself. Half movie. Nicely designed here and there, runs well, but that's about it.

Spiderhead is a decent little movie with Hemsworth as the only known headline. He's cast as a scientist and let's be honest, that doesn't make any sense at all. He has the looks of an underpants model and he doesn't convince for a second. The rest of the cast is unknown, but certainly not bad.

The story is fairly predictable. What kept me going as a viewer was that I am a fan of films about people in an environment that turns out to be different than they thought.

But of course you can't give more than 2.5 stars for this. Nice filling for the Netflix repertoire, that's all.

Very strange that the director is the same guy who directed the huge blockbuster Top Gun Maverick.

Extremely mediocre.

Surprisingly lukewarm and boringly elaborated 'action thriller'. That is to say: the film does not actually live up to any of its genres. There is little action, and also ugly shot. And that thriller element, with a small dash of sci-fi, doesn't do it for me either. The premise is better than the movie itself at any point. Chris Hemsworth also falls through the basket as a smooth villain. I suspect that, among other things, his casting cost Netflix a lot of money, but the end result is absolutely not up to scratch.
