Marco Effekten plot

A 14-year-old gypsy boy named Marco is arrested at the Danish border for possessing a missing person's passport. Carl Mørck and Department Q are then assigned to the case. The passport belongs to an official who was accused of pedophilia just before he went missing. His disappearance was closed very quickly. Marco, obviously traumatized, refuses to talk and is unsure of his life because he knows too much.

Fifth film in the Q series by author Jussi Adler-Olsen. Unfortunately, the leading actors have been replaced here by other actors, something that takes some getting used to. Fortunately, old hand in the trade Ulrich Thomsen also does a fine job as the constantly grumpy and unruly Carl Mørck. The plot is less surprising than in the earlier parts and is ultimately quite average, but the atmospheric camera work and solid direction by Martin Zandvliet make up for a lot. All in all, not one of the better parts, but it can pass.

Great Scandinavian film, could easily have been a series. The first Q I've seen, so I definitely have to see the earlier films. In any case, this one was good, with a ditto cast. Just one thing: what's the point of having the protagonist chew the cud on nicotine gum for pretty much the entire movie? Makes no sense at all. The story was fascinating, even though something similar has been filmed before, it was well put together, even with some exciting moments. Recommended.

This fifth part of the series of films about Department Q is by far the least. Not only are the now familiar faces of Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Fares Fares sorely missed, the story of this film is also a lot less exciting than in the previous four parts. A complete disappointment unfortunately.
