A very mediocre horror film. I read the reviews of the 1995 version and confused it with this one. Unfortunately, it's very disappointing. The story is terrible and the execution is stupid. There's absolutely no suspense, and the atmosphere is laughable. The light settings (for a supposedly dark castle) don't contribute to this either. The only moderately successful aspect is the limited gore. Furthermore, the acting is far below par. A sad outcome. 1.5

A lackluster rework. Director Tate Steinsiek has won several awards for his filmmaking skills, but he barely uses them in Castle Freak. The creatures look awful and are certainly not intimidating, which is a shame considering you've chosen such an atmospheric location. The acting is also abysmal, the suspense is lacking, and the absurd finale is barely memorable. What remains are a few gory moments that occasionally awaken the film enthusiast from their slumber, something you can hardly avoid while watching this rather unimpressive film project.
