Tried this horror movie once and found the beginning certainly not bad. The middle part could have been a bit shorter, there was too little happening there to captivate the whole time. Fortunately the movie recovered towards the end.

I didn't know the lead actress, but she certainly didn't do a bad job.

It certainly wasn't a bad film, just a shame about the poor middle part.

The film is based on the earlier short film The Stylist (2016) by Jill Gevargizian, also starring Townsend, which I watched during my horror challenge. The idea is intriguing and I was curious how director Jill Gevargizian could turn this short story into a feature film. Actually, not much happens and this film is not really an enrichment compared to the short film. You can see the ending coming from miles away. 5/10

Phew. On paper this seemed like a very nice premise and after seeing the film the potential still stands, but how stiffly and palely worked out.

The refreshing part will have to lie in the protagonist Claire, who through her work frequently gains insights into the lives of her clients, but who herself has to make do without a truly intimate connection and leads an isolated existence. Her loneliness and envy (and Joost knows what other inner struggles) make her socially very awkward to quite cuckoo. Objectively an interesting motive, but the film never manages to translate it interestingly onto the screen and Claire's motives to murder remain a bit... sad.

For me, Townsend was also not convincing at all as the fickle Claire. Uneasy in her acted discomfort, does that make sense? The evoked vicarious embarrassment was in any case more for the actress than her character. At key moments, the film does lean on her performance and that was a wrong assessment.

Furthermore, a film that deals with visual perfectionism and stylization could have yielded much more in terms of audiovisuals, but it doesn't get much further than using static camera work to make our main character's ochre-yellow accessories stand out against a gray-brown background.

Boring and predictable progression, a lot of unintended discomfort, especially due to an irritating main character, in a world that cries out for more creative interpretation but is ultimately presented rather poorly. 1.5*
