Amateur shit.
In the opening scene we enter a bookstore where the camera zooms in on a display table full of books and just then a customer walks by and snatches a book from the stack.
She's your typical housewife (writer, but still) who prepares breakfast for her husband and gets a slap on the bottom before he goes out the door, like it's 1974. Saddeningly bad erotic scenes, with the blanket over her, no nudity to be seen.
Are you conducting a job interview in your home, are you going to make coffee, and in the meantime, your applicant, as if that is not very strange, is reading a book he brought with him. Those applications were unabashedly stolen from Single White Female.
The meaningless bits are of course once again given away to black actors, as a kind of dinner and what is left of it is for the dog.
Bad acting, that 'Oh my God! What happened?' when she sees her husband on the bathroom floor bleeding to death. "What happened?" Yes, I slipped on a bar of soap and bounced on a meat cleaver five times, well... But mostly the intonation, which doesn't match what she sees at all, like she saw someone fall but actually knows that there isn't much going on.

The '90s called, they want their horribly hackneyed movie title back.

In that respect, you already know what you will be served. After the recent Crush / Shattered, Netflix comes quite quickly with the next "thriller" in which a seemingly innocent girl is taken into the house, but of course you immediately know that this will not end well. The only thing they do well here is that it is not immediately revealed what exactly is going on and that strange things do not happen in the house right from the start. ABut it could all have been a bit more exciting, less prudish and more sexy. Also all kinds of useless plot elements could have been left out (man who invested money wrongly) to keep the film more consistent. I also miss that consistency in the transition from complete trust to becoming paranoia and realizing that things are going on. It was all a bit too sudden and from this moment on the film completely lost me.

I knew in advance what to expect. I didn't go into the movie with the hope that this would be an unexpected hit. That is why I remain mild in my assessment, because it has done what I expected in advance.

2.5*

A film that makes me feel like I've seen it many times before in other forms. What the writer is going through, is it fantasy or reality? That last question has come up so many times in other films that you have to come up with something particularly surprising to pique my interest. That doesn't happen, everything just goes according to the book of course it turns out not to be a fantasy of the main character, the babysitter is really wacko. And of course we get to see a scene at the end where it is not clear who is leaving the institution. Nothing surprising, my rating is therefore not surprising: 1*.
