A tight 3* for this Indonesian horror film. It is by no means the best horror film from the East. After a dragging introduction, the horror follows, but it is sometimes so clumsy and cheaply made that it became grotesque. With a witch from the carnival shop and CGI blood, it was sometimes difficult to sympathize with the characters. What happened to them left me cold. The mystery could also be developed a little better.

Of course, it is always a matter of waiting to see how a director's talent develops when they separate from their friend/partner (Timo Tjahjanto), but in the case of Kimo Stamboel it turned out perfectly. The Queen of Black Magic benefits from a nice freaky event and a lot of visual creativity, which certainly makes the finale an excellent one. The mediocre acting and the uninteresting lead-up can be forgiven more quickly, but Stamboel can still develop a bit further with the computer effects. Once the horror comes out of the closet, the film turns out to be a nice reunion and is not boring for a moment, and Stamboel also provides it with enough filth and gore to stand out even more. Fun and entertaining horror fun with its own face, that's how I personally like it.
