Limited.

Becoming is the kind of movie that makes me wonder if Tony Kebbell isn't secretly just an up-and-coming actor. In any case, what he shows in this film is far below a professional level. Mitchell is head and shoulders above that, who plays a much better figure with a much more limited and boring role.

Director Naim is not unknown in the profession, but with this film he does not show that he is competent anywhere. It mainly feels like he happened to be directing something. Becoming resembles a debut film, with limited resources and few creative improvisations. The film looks bare. It contains a lot of boring use of color, poor camera direction and uninteresting plot developments. The twists and turns of the story are quite questionable (and chewed out), but there is a brave attempt to keep it all as mysterious as possible. I just can't take the idea behind it very seriously.

In my opinion, it is mainly Mitchell who exudes enough enthusiasm to take the film in tow. There is a certain amount of chemistry to be seen and it doesn't take long for the credits to roll across the screen. It should have been more exciting, more atmospheric and above all more creative. For now, Becoming will quickly pale in comparison to the other horror thriller films that are being made at lightning speed in 2023.
