It's about time... A serious, visually polished zombie film! While it largely embraces the usual genre tropes, it does bring some original touches to the way the zombie outbreak has an effect. Moreover, the serious tone of the film, both in story (message) and visually, does not mean that it is completely deprived of any fun. Barnaby manages to find a nice balance by going over the top with the kills outside of all seriousness. Resulting in some very tasty gore (the chainsaw or the 'bungee zombie'). With an overall very neat look and high production value, it can almost be called refreshing within this subgenre. Recommended!

Low budget Canadian zombie film with at least a fairly original location: an Indian reserve! It's a shame that the plot and acting are inadequate, otherwise the film could have become something. Visually it all looks quite okay and the bloody make-up effects are mainly first-class. Unfortunately, due to the very mediocre cast, the film does not manage to stand out. Clearly made with a lot of love and effort, but more attention should have been paid to finding convincing actors.

Tasty.

It is not yet entirely clear to me where this Barnaby comes from and who he is, but it is now clear that it is a name that I really have to keep an eye on. Blood Quantum starts slowly but ultimately turns out to be a fairly refreshing addition to the zombie genre.

Obviously still somewhat limited in terms of resources and certainly the beginning needs some time to get going, but once the film is running it picks up well. It is not refreshing because it is so distinctive in terms of narrative, but because it is nice and bloody. The red splashes are allowed to fly around in abundance, enhanced by some serious quality in terms of make-up and practical effects.

What remains is a sometimes slow, but extremely entertaining zombie film that doesn't really fail anywhere. The characters are thin but well acted and the action sequence is strong. Blood Quantum is definitely one of the better titles within the horror genre of the past 5 years. Nowadays there are not many people who are not afraid to show some crude violence, which is why a film like this is such a pleasant discovery.

The acting is good, as is the directing quality and it has a good horror feel. What also hinders the film is the somewhat pushy moral as well as the too slow introduction. The characters are not very interesting, so the fact that the film still desperately tries to find support in that area is a bit of a shame. Maybe it could have been a bit more energetic at times, but in the end that's just finding needles in a haystack. A nice bloody and extremely entertaining haystack in this case.
