Louis Wain [Benedict Cumberbatch] is an illustrator who gained fame from the late 1880s as an illustrator of cats, often with human characteristics. Cumberbatch once again shows his eccentric side, but fails to make his naive character interesting. We discover the special role he had in his family, his difficult relationship with his eldest sister [Andrea Riseborough] and his love for Emily Richardson [Claire Foy]. Toby Jones plays the role of Sir William Ingram, then the director of The Illustrated London News who provides Louis and his family with an income. A beautiful production with a lot of attention to period detail, but unfortunately the story itself is not that interesting. Cat lovers might give this an extra star, because they are obviously quite prominent.

Good film about a man who lives with his five sisters and earns his money as an illustrator. A fairly standard and safe biopic set around the turn of the last century. The film certainly looks good with a nice overall setting and beautiful colors. Solid, but nowhere really surprising.

The film looks beautiful with great attention to detail. Sometimes you see films that are so lavishly decorated that you think this is really way too much, but in this one I really liked the multitude.

I found it really moving at times, although Cumberbatch portrays a very exaggerated character, from now on I have to act very crazy, looking at someone for just a little too long, a strange walk... I thought it was all a bit too over the top. lie, but absolutely not annoying or anything... Certainly not.

Nick Cave in a supporting role as HG Wells, but Nick Cave is just Nick Cave haha...

A beautiful biopic about a forgotten artist, but why only a 3.5? Because, apart from the kitten/cat Peter, there are hardly any cats in it. There doesn't have to be a cat walking through the screen all the time - although - but this is very sparse. An occasional funny shot of a cat would have done the film a lot of good.

Cats have been worshiped over the years as mystical gods and denigrated as allies of witchcraft and sin. I think you're the first to see that they're actually ridiculous. They are silly animals. Cuddly and lonely. Scared and brave.. just like us.
